Military Studies and Military Training

Outline of military training course
KMA, being a special purpose university focused on fostering expert professional soldiers offers military studies education and training. The military studies education is largely classified into 3 types.

First, it is a 4-week basic military training that begins upon admission. The basic military training assists cadets to understand the behavior ethics and order as a soldier by studying about the common task training, decree on military service, cadet regulations and others and cadets are trained to think based on honor.

Second, it is the military doctrine and theory education in general semester. The military doctrine and theory education is conducted for 1 hour weekly and as for the education subject, it is educated per academic year. Major level officers who have mastered the military theory through various experiences in the battlefield are selected for the education and in addition, generals in the reserves of the Army are invited as special lecturers to conduct education based on accumulated knowledge and hands-on experience.

Third, it is the summer military training. The summer military training is conducted during the summer vacation period from July to September annually and cadets acquire basic military knowledge as well as commanding skills which can be applied in the battlefield by progressively completing the course including weapon studies, strategy studies, instructor education, ranger training, airborne training and others.

Basic Military Training
Every January, prospective cadets who are admitted to the KMA after passing a very competitive selection process, participate in the basic military training. Cadets undergo the transformation from civilians to soldiers and the training corse is classified into 2 types.

First, it is the routine education.
Routine education focuses on familiarization with military doctrine, establishing basic attitude as a soldier, fostering basic fitness/power of self-control and various trainings such as using individual weapons/marksmanship, bayonet, vigilance, CBR, tactical march and others are provided.

Second, it's extracurricular education.
Extracurricular education focuses on adaptation to cadet lift and cultivating qualities and various ceremonial events (Honor Ceremony, Jae-Gu Ceremony etc.), religious activities, honor education, character development and others are conducted. Through such trainings, cadets would be able to equip themselves with the fundamental fitness and patience as a cadet and with the external attitude and inner soldierly spirit as a soldier.
Summer Military Training
The core training goals for freshmen cadets are mastering common task training and understanding organizational weapon use at the squad and platoon level echelons, Dokdo island law and obstacle education in order to "assign basic military knowledge that can be applied in battlefields".

The core training goals for sophomore cadets are mastering squad combat skills and squad leadership ability and passing airborne qualification training in order to "understand squad level combat skills".

The core training goals for junior cadets are gaining defense and attack of platoon level strategy and performing guerrilla training in order to "understand the platoon level combat skills".

The core training goals for senior cadets are to learn company and battalion level tactics and performing long distance tactical marching, improving inter-service arms cooperation capabilities and experiencing all the branches of the armed forces at each branch school in order to "understand platoon level skills".
Military adaptation of university education
KMA fosters the basic knowledge for cadets to develop into professional soldiers and teaches the fundamental regulations/creed.

Freshmen cadets learn about the common task training regulations, sophomore cadets learn about squad combat/military staff studies, junior cadets learn about the basic creed of platoon strategies in ground forces and senior cadets learn about commanding company and battaliion strategies. Besides, 13 subjects with military applications such as war history, commanding theory and weapon system are included in the curricular subject, ensuring that cadets would develop into military experts equipped with fundamental knowledge.
